Course Overview
In this 3-day course, the student will gain the practical knowledge, skills and confidence required to install, turn-up and maintain confidence required to install, turn-up and maintain Traverse 2000/1600/600 products within SDH and/or SONET networks. Student will learn features and architecture of the Traverse 2000/1600/600, how to install and turn-up and implement Traverse 2000/1600/600 technologies, how to provision Traverse 2000/1600/600 utilizing either CLI or Graphical User Interface (GUI), management capabilities and how maintain and troubleshoot Traverse 2000/1600/600 products.
The course combines both lecture and labs, with significant time allocated for hands-on experience in the lab.
Course Topics
- Identify SONET/SDH Architecture and Frame structure layers, equipment and components
- Explain Primary and Secondary Source Timing Provisioning and Configuration.
- Distinguish Protected Point to Point, Ring and Mesh Network Topologies.
- Competently Log in to the CLI, Navigate through Line commands and basic CLI commands.
- Define Common Provisioning Services; Regular SONET, Ethernet, VC- Bundle
- List and explain functionality of supported features.
- Perform Transmultiplexing, Bridging and Rolling, 1+1 Path Protection and Drop and Continue Service provisioning.
- Describe Cross Connect Types; Add, Drop, Add/Drop, Pass-through, Drop & Continue.
- Define and understand Signal Connections.
- Manage Node Alarms, Events and Configurations.
- Successful Initial Device commissioning and basic configuration commands.
- Explain Primary and Secondary Source Timing Provisioning and Configuration.

Network engineers, technical support personnel and others responsible for implementing and/or maintaining the Force10 Networks products and features covered in this course.
This course benefits individuals responsible for implementing, monitoring, and troubleshooting Force10 S, C and E-Series products.
Course Outline
Prerequisites
Students should have a basic understanding of LAN systems and a general knowledge of switching and routing including the following topics:
- Basic understanding of Voice/Data Communications
- Basic knowledge of SDH & IP Networks
- Prior installation experience and a working CLI knowledge a plus
- Understanding of Windows PC based applications
