-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Operation and Troubleshooting of Juniper Networks Routers (OTJNR) course is an intermediate-level, instructor-led course that focuses on the operation and troubleshooting of Juniper Networks M-series and T-series platforms. This course exposes attendees to fault analysis procedures and troubleshooting techniques similar to those used by engineers in the Juniper Networks Technical Assistance Center (JTAC) to enable rapid problem determination and resolution. Please note that this course does not focus on configuration or on routing protocol operation/theory.

The course allocates significant time for a variety of hands-on troubleshooting labs that focus on fault isolation and correction actions for M-series and T-series hardware, JUNOS software, interfaces and transmission lines, routing protocols, and the forwarding plane. The course also provides coverage of JTAC procedures and recommended best practices that assist in fault isolation.

Target Audience
Network engineers, support personnel, reseller support, and others responsible for monitoring and maintaining Juniper M & T Series routing products utilizing the features covered in this class.

Objectives
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Perform installation procedures for M-series and T-series routers
  • Operate the Craft Interface
  • Manipulate the JUNOS Software CLI and issue operational-mode commands
  • Save and manipulate configuration files
  • Use System logs and tracing
  • Recover and decode Core files
  • Perform basic Hardware Troubleshooting
  • Provide an overview of hardware troubleshooting tools
  • Parse log files for symptoms of hardware problems
  • Upgrade and downgrade JUNOS software
  • Describe when system snapshots should be taken and how they are used
  • Recover a lost root password
  • Configure loopbacks and BERT
  • Troubleshooting and Monitoring the Forwarding Plane
  • Display entries in the RE and PFE forwarding table
  • Detect the presence of interface policers
  • Detect the presence of firewall filters

Prerequisites:

While there are no official course prerequisites, attendees of all Juniper Networks technical education courses are expected to have general familiarity with topics in the following areas:

  • TCP/IP basics
  • Link-state routing protocols, including a familiarity with either OSPF or IS-IS
  • Operation of BGP4 and knowledge of the BGP4 mandatory attributes
  • General interdomain routing issues
While not required, familiarity with the command-line interface of a routing platform or UNIX system is helpful.
